Lore / Souls, lives & the Hollow

One soul.
More than one life.

The world you enter does not begin with you. Its people already have homes to protect, work to finish, and reasons to fear what lies beyond their doors. You arrive with a life to make among them.

But that life is not the whole of what you are.

In Hollow Concord, your body is mortal. The soul that inhabits it endures beyond a single lifetime. The strength you gain, the shelter you build, and the companions you trust can give that lifetime meaning. They cannot make it last forever.

01 / A mortal vessel

The life
you can lose

A body can become skilled, powerful, and familiar. You may come to know its limits so well that they begin to feel like your own. Then a journey goes wrong. A battle is lost. A life ends.

The soul remains, but a new body is not a return to everything you were. Much of a lifetime's hard-won strength belongs to the life that earned it. Some knowledge and possibilities can endure beyond that loss; others must be built again.

Rebirth is another beginning. It is not an undoing of death.

02 / Life on the Surface

A world worth
returning to

On the Surface, life has immediate demands. People need food, water, shelter, and one another. A dangerous road matters differently when it lies between your home and the people you depend on.

You can make a life here without understanding every mystery beneath it. There is worth in supplying an expedition you will never join, making a useful thing, or keeping a place ready for someone else's return.

Not every life has to be a descent into the unknown. The ordinary things you build give the unknown something to threaten.

03 / The Hollow

Beneath
the Surface

Below lies the Hollow: depths large enough to contain landscapes of their own. To descend is to leave more than daylight behind. Familiar preparations may carry you only so far into a place with different creatures, resources, and dangers.

The Hollow's threat is not confined to what can strike you. Corruption can take hold of a living body. A return to the Surface means little if the person who set out no longer commands what comes back.

A REASON TO BE CAREFUL

Understanding the danger is part of surviving it. So is knowing when to turn back.

04 / Beyond the familiar

Beyond
one world

A mirror should show the world before it. In the Hollow, that expectation is not always enough.

The Surface you know is not the whole of existence. Other worlds lie beyond it, and the connections between them are part of a larger mystery. Finding a way through does not mean understanding what joins them—or why their fates might matter to one another.

There are also discoveries that ask more of a soul than another journey. Their meaning, and their price, belong to the lives that encounter them.

05 / Shared lives

What you choose
to protect

Other souls are making lives alongside yours. Some become companions. Others become rivals. The need for trust does not remove ambition, conflict, or the possibility of betrayal.

You do not have to spend every life pursuing the same purpose. One may be given to discovery, another to building, another to defending something you once took for granted. Yet the threat beneath the world reaches further than any one person's plans.

To confront it may require people who would otherwise have no reason to stand together.
